Khaberni - The Syrian government and the SDF organization announced today, Friday, an agreement on a ceasefire within a comprehensive agreement that includes an understanding of a sequential integration process of the SDF's military forces and its autonomous administration institutions into the Syrian state institutions.
A government source explained to the official SANA agency that the agreement includes the withdrawal of military forces from contact points, the entry of security forces belonging to the Ministry of Interior into the center of Al-Haska and Qamishli cities to enhance stability and start the integration process of security forces in the area, and the formation of a military brigade comprising three regiments from the SDF forces, in addition to forming a brigade for Ain Al-Arab (Kobani) forces within a division belonging to Aleppo governorate.
According to the government source and the SDF media center, the agreement also includes the integration of the autonomous administration institutions of the SDF into the Syrian state institutions, with the permanent appointment of civilian employees, settling civil and educational rights for the Kurdish community, and ensuring the return of displaced people to their regions.
The government source confirmed that the agreement aims to unify Syrian territories, enforce the law, and achieve full integration in the area by enhancing cooperation between the concerned parties, and unifying efforts to rebuild the country.
The source stated that "the military and security integration will be individual within the regiments so that the state takes over all civil, governmental institutions, crossings, and outlets, and no part of the country remains outside its control".
U.S. Welcome
The U.S. envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, welcomed the agreement, praising the "courageous steps" taken by both parties.
In a post on the X platform, Barrack described the agreement as a "historic and deeply influential milestone in Syria's path towards national reconciliation, unity, and lasting stability".
Barrack stated that through the agreement, the Syrian government demonstrates its firm commitment to true national partnership, comprehensive governance, and facilitating the gradual integration of the military, security, and administrative structures of the SDF into the unified state institutions.
In recent weeks, the Syrian army has controlled Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor governorates in the north and northeast of the country, after battles with the SDF organization, following military operations launched after the organization breached its agreements with the Syrian government, targeting residential areas in the city of Aleppo and other regions of the country.
On January 18 of this month, Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shar' signed an agreement to cease fire with the SDF organization, which stipulates the integration of its elements into government institutions.
Among the key terms of the agreement is the integration of the administration responsible for managing ISIS prisoners and camps - in addition to the forces tasked with protecting these facilities - into the Syrian government institutions, which will then fully assume legal and security responsibility for them.
