Netanyahus Office No Disagreement with Egypt over Rafah Crossing

The office of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied today, Thursday, the existence of disagreements between Israel and Egypt regarding the Rafah crossing.

Hani Marzouk, the spokesperson for Netanyahu's office to "Al Arabiya/Al Hadath," stated that there are no disputes with Egypt concerning the Rafah crossing, noting that the two parties are discussing some details.

Marzouk also clarified that sufficient food and humanitarian aid is currently entering the Gaza Strip.

The denial came after Israeli sources indicated that "there are disagreements between Tel Aviv and Cairo regarding the number of people entering and exiting the Rafah crossing, which is expected to be open in both directions next Sunday," according to the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation.

The sources also clarified that "Israel wants the number of departures to be greater than the number of entries, but the Egyptians insist on an equal ratio and fear a quiet attempt to encourage emigration from Gaza."

Meanwhile, the sources indicated that efforts are underway to resolve these disagreements between Cairo and Tel Aviv.

These details come as the date for opening the crossing remains unclear; some Israeli sources expect it to open next Sunday, while others speculate it could open on Thursday.

It is worth mentioning that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza, who have been exhausted by two years of Israeli attacks on the sector, faced long-term restrictions on their movement and monitoring of their internet and telephone communications by Israeli surveillance agencies.

All residents of Gaza, numbering nearly two million, were forced to live in a narrow coastal strip from which Israeli forces withdrew under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement sponsored by President Donald Trump.

In its second phase, Trump's plan stipulated the start of the rebuilding of the sector from Rafah, and Hamas laying down its arms in exchange for further Israeli troop withdrawals from the sector.
