Khaberni - The mother of young Iraqi Alaa, the owner of the "betrayal video" that recently spread on social media, has revealed details of what occurred with her son in relation to the case that has been circulated by the pages.

In statements to local Iraqi media, she mentioned that the video is old and his wife had blackmailed him for 50 million Iraqi dinars in exchange for not publishing the clip and dropping the lawsuit.

Alaa's mother said in press statements that "her son's wife left the marital home in December 2025 following a family dispute," adding that "Alaa repeatedly tried to bring her back and settle the dispute amicably, but she refused to return and insisted on continuing with the divorce proceedings."

She added that "Alaa divorced his wife on January 1, 2026, after all attempts at reconciliation and appeasement failed," noting that "the video that was circulated on social media was recorded on January 18, 2026."

She clarified that "the wife demanded 50 million dinars in exchange for not publishing the video and waiving the lawsuit filed against her son," indicating that "her family is suffering greatly from the widespread circulation of the video, affirming her son's innocence of the charges directed at him."

Alaa's mother appealed to the judicial authorities for "the release of her only son," pointing out that "many of those who circulated the video do not possess full knowledge of what actually happened, calling for caution and not to succumb to rumors."

A video known as «Alaa's Video» invaded social media in Iraq and several Arab countries over the past few hours, showing a man suspected of cheating on his wife inside their marital home, which sparked significant public reaction.

An Iraqi security source reported that the authorities arrested the man shown in the video, named Alaa, hours after it spread.

Regarding the details of the incident, the wife's lawyer explained that the video was not published by her directly but was recorded as part of judicial proceedings she initiated to claim her legal rights, before the clip leaked to social media and elicited widespread reaction.

According to the lawyer, circumstances caused by a call from her husband while she was outside the home, where he mentioned another woman with him, led her to record the clip, then call emergency services to summon the police, who attended and arrested both the husband and the woman with him for committing acts considered criminal under Iraqi law.
