A Secret to Slowing Arterial Hardening and Reducing Cancer Risk

Khaberni  - Nutrition expert Dr. Margarita Koroliova reports that tomatoes are considered one of the most beneficial vegetables for health, containing essential and trace nutrients such as phosphorus and calcium.

She explained that tomatoes are rich in lycopene, a strong antioxidant that helps slow the process of arterial hardening and protects cells from damage, thus reducing the risk of cancer.

She noted that despite the lower nutritional value of some winter vegetables grown in greenhouses, it is not advisable to completely exclude them from the diet. Neglecting to consume tomatoes can lead to a lycopene deficiency, a carotenoid pigment that gives them their red color, helps reduce oxidative stress, boosts immunity, and protects the body from infections, in addition to improving men's health.

She added that tomatoes contain trace nutrients such as phosphorus, sodium, calcium, and potassium, which play an important role in supporting most vital body functions.

She indicated that red cabbage and bell peppers could serve as partial substitutes for tomatoes during winter, and dietary supplements could be used to compensate for vitamin and trace element deficiencies when needed. She also emphasized the importance of following a healthy lifestyle that includes physical activity, walking outdoors, and reducing stress.

It is noted that previous studies have shown that consuming canned tomatoes reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer, helps repair muscle tissues, and lowers inflammation markers in the blood, and that they contain a higher amount of lycopene compared to fresh tomatoes.
