Egyptian Actress in Court for Inciting Depravity and Immorality

Khaberni - The Cairo Economic Court continued on Thursday the trial sessions of the actress Mona Farouk in the case related to the violation of family principles and values, following content circulated on social media sites.

The details of the case trace back to the Public Prosecutor referring the actress’s files to the Full Prosecution at the New Cairo Court after concluding the investigations into the accusations directed at her.

During the session, the court is scheduled to hear the defense's pleadings and review the documents submitted in preparation for ruling on the case.

A lawyer had filed a complaint against Mona Farouk accusing her of inciting depravity and immorality, offending moral and family values, in addition to misusing the internet and social media platforms. The complaint included accusations of public indecency and tarnishing the image of Egyptian women in front of Arab societies.

This trial is part of the efforts by the relevant authorities to counter the misuse of social media and preserve societal values, amid wide attention from artistic and media circles to the latest developments of the case and court decisions.
