Khaberni - Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Association, predicts that the next February 19th, will be the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan 1447 AH astronomically.
Al Jarwan explained that the crescent moon of Ramadan 1447 AH will be born on Tuesday, February 17th at 16:01 UAE time, but it will set only one minute after sunset, with an age of about two hours and 12 minutes at sunset, which will prevent its sighting on that day. He added that the sighting of the crescent is expected on the evening of Wednesday, February 18th, therefore Thursday, February 19th will be the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan.
He noted that astronomically, the month of Ramadan will end on Thursday, March 19th, making Friday, March 20th the beginning of Shawwal and the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
Number of fasting hours
Al Jarwan pointed out that in the capital, Abu Dhabi, the length of the day at the beginning of the holy month will be about 11 hours and 32 minutes, while the fasting from dawn to sunset will be about 12 hours and 46 minutes. By the end of Ramadan, the length of the day will reach about 12 hours and 12 minutes, and the fasting will increase to about 13 hours and 25 minutes.
He mentioned that the city of Khorfakkan and the eastern coastal areas of the country are about 8 minutes ahead of Abu Dhabi in time, while the far western areas of the country, such as Sila and Ghuwaifat, are about 12 minutes behind, which means that the times for beginning and breaking the fast in Khorfakkan are about 20 minutes ahead of Sila and Ghuwaifat.
