Jordan Trade exchange with Syria jumps 185

Khaberni -   The volume of trade between Jordan and Syria jumped by 185% during the first eleven months of last year compared to the same period of the year before last, according to figures released by the Department of Statistics, as published by Al-Ghad newspaper.

The value of trade (exports and imports) between the two countries until the end of November (November) last year was about 308 million dinars, compared to 108 million dinars for the same period from the year 2024.
Despite this increase, the volume of trade between the two countries is still less than it was before the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in 2011 when it reached 800 million dinars annually.
According to official figures, national exports to Syria during the first eleven months of last year saw a leap of more than 351% compared to the same period from the year 2024.
The value of national exports to Syria during the first eleven months of last year was 230 million dinars, compared to 51 million dinars for the same period from the year 2024.
Jordan exports several products to Syria, notably construction materials (such as cement, wood, tiles, paints, tanks), adhesives, fabrics, cleaning materials, canning materials, glassware, solar panels, and food items.
Regarding imports, foreign trade figures indicate that the kingdom's imports from Syria also witnessed an increase of 37% during the first eleven months of last year to reach 78 million dinars compared to 57 million dinars, compared with the same period from the year 2024.
Jordan imports from Syria various goods, including types of fruits, electrical devices, food items, and medical or surgical or laboratory sterilization devices.
Based on official figures, the trade balance (the difference between exports and imports) achieved a surplus of 152 million dinars in favor of Jordan.
Jordan and Syria agreed at the end of last year during official talks held in Damascus to open import and export channels between the two countries for all goods, based on the principle of reciprocity, starting from the beginning of this year, which will enhance the volume of trade and provide greater opportunities for the public and private sectors in both countries.
It is noted that trade between the two countries used to exceed 800 million dinars before the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in 2011, but sharply declined to reach only 56 million dinars in 2020, after the "Caesar Law" came into effect.
It is worth mentioning that since the year 2020, the United States began imposing a series of sanctions on Syria under the name "Caesar Law", which targeted all Syrian and foreign companies and individuals dealing with the Syrian government in military or oil fields or related to reconstruction, posing a major challenge to Jordanian companies seeking to deal with their Syrian counterparts.
Last September, the US Treasury Department announced in a statement, the suspension of sanctions imposed on Syria under the "Caesar Law" for 180 days.
