Jordanians Celebrate Kings 64th Birthday

Khaberni  - The noble nation celebrates the venerable king's birthday, His Majesty the Hashemite King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, the esteemed Supreme Commander of the Jordanian Armed Forces, a man of esteemed biography and the patron of benevolent progress, who was the best of descendants following the guidance of the ancestors, leading the nation with the noble Hashemite virtues, and whose perennial concern has been the upliftment, advancement, prosperity stability of the nation, making it a focal point for seekers and lovers, thus turning Jordan during his blessed era into the darling of hearts and a delight for the eyes.

On January 30, 1962, His Majesty King Abdullah II was born in Amman, the eldest son of the late God-favored King Hussein bin Talal, may God bless his soul, and Princess Muna Al-Hussein. His Majesty received his education at the Islamic Scientific College in Amman, Deerfield Academy in the United States, and studied at Oxford University in the United Kingdom and the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington.

At the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, His Majesty received his military education, thereafter embarking on a distinguished military career within the ranks of the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army, progressing in military ranks from Lieutenant to Major General, where he started his service as a platoon leader, later becoming an assistant commander in the 2nd Royal Tank Battalion, and continued in the ranks of the Arab Army until he became the commander of the Royal Special Forces, which he restructured according to the latest international military standards, later becoming the Special Operations Command.

His Majesty, may God protect him, was wed to Queen Rania Al Abdullah on June 10, 1993, and their Majesties were blessed with two sons: His Highness Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, born June 28, 1994, and His Highness Prince Hashem bin Abdullah II, born January 30, 2005, and two daughters: Her Highness Princess Iman bint Abdullah II, born September 27, 1996, and Her Highness Princess Salma bint Abdullah II, born September 26, 2000.

His Majesty King Abdullah II holds many high honors from Arab and foreign countries, and is qualified as a pilot and free-fall parachutist. Among his hobbies are motor racing, where he has won the Jordan National Rally Championship, in addition to practicing water sports and diving, and other hobbies include collecting antique weapons.

In February 1999, His Majesty King Abdullah II, may God protect and preserve him, assumed his constitutional powers as King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, following the death of His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal, may God bless his soul. His Majesty devoted himself to defending Jordan as an oasis of security and stability amidst a troubled region, by investing in the human capacities of his people, confronting the threats of terrorism and extremism through a holistic approach, continuously working to enhance security and stability, and striving for peace in the Middle East, and advocating for the Palestinian cause in various international forums. Despite Jordan's scarce resources, His Majesty continues to lead the nation's efforts to be a safe haven for millions of refugees, stemming from the Jordanian Hashemite legacy of aiding and protecting the needy.

Since assuming the throne, His Majesty has followed the path set by his father, the late Hussein, in enhancing Jordan’s positive and moderate role both regionally and internationally, and has tirelessly worked towards achieving a just, lasting, and comprehensive solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict. He has also aimed to institutionalize democracy and political plurality as established by the founder Hussein, seeking to achieve sustainability in economic growth and social development, with the aim of advancing the quality of life for all Jordanians.
