France supports the designation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a European terrorist organization

Khaberni - The Elysée Palace announced on Wednesday that France "supports the inclusion of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard" in the "European Union list of terrorist organizations", according to Agence France-Presse.

Earlier this month, the European Union's foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said that the European Union is preparing new sanctions in response to the violence used by Tehran against protesters.

Human rights organizations accuse the Iranian Revolutionary Guard of being behind the suppression campaign of the recent protests in the country. On Thursday, Italy plans to propose to the rest of the European Union countries to add the Revolutionary Guard to this list.

Yesterday, Tuesday, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Italian Ambassador in Tehran, Paola Amadei, over what it described as "irresponsible statements" by the Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani regarding the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The Italian ambassador was formally notified of Tehran’s protest against Rome's recent stances, especially the call to include the Revolutionary Guard on the list of terrorist organizations.

The summons came hours after the Italian Foreign Minister announced his country's support for adding the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to the list of "terrorist organizations", attributing this to the Guard’s role in what he described as "the violent and widespread suppression of protests" inside Iran.
