Khaberni - The appearance of a rat on the floor of the "Camp Nou" before the Barcelona vs FC Copenhagen match in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening sparked a wave of ridicule and criticism on social media.
Channel "TNT Sports Mexico" was at the stadium to cover the pre-match atmosphere on Wednesday and its cameras captured a rat freely jumping on the sides of the "Camp Nou" field.
The clip spread like wildfire on social media, was circulated by major Spanish and international newspapers, and ignited a wave of ridicule and questions about the stadium's readiness to receive fans.
Newspaper reports attributed the appearance of the rat to the humidity caused by the rains, which contributed to the emergence of these rodents.
It also raised concerns about its impact on the cleanliness of the stadium and the safety of players and spectators.
Fans reacted on social media to the incident, expressing their shock at the appearance of rats in a famous stadium like "Camp Nou".
"Camp Nou" was closed between May 2023 and the end of 2025 for upgrading and renovation, although work is still ongoing in some parts of it, and renovation work is expected to be completed by 2027.
This is not the first time that "Camp Nou" has been the subject of mockery on social media, as followers criticized the formation of water pools inside the stadium during the "Blaugrana" match against Real Oviedo from the Spanish league.
Photos showed large amounts of water flowing through the stands and into the internal areas of the stadium.
Barcelona is expected to host the Copenhagen team on Wednesday night, with Hansi Flick's team currently in ninth place in the UEFA Champions League standings, with the top eight teams qualifying directly for the Round of 16.
