Japan donates two garbage trucks to the Greater Karak Municipality

Khaberni - Japan provided a grant worth $122,188 to the Greater Karak Municipality to supply garbage trucks under the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

This grant aims to address the municipality's challenge of waste collection in the city of Karak, due to its growing population of 130,600, including Syrian refugees. The two funded garbage trucks will enhance the municipality's capability to maintain a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for the residents of Karak.

In the speech delivered during the handover events, Ambassador Asari Hideki expressed his appreciation for the municipality's ongoing dedication to public services and said: "The Greater Karak Municipality has a proud history of serving its people since 1893, and it has shown over more than 130 years resilience and commitment to improving the lives of its residents. This project is another step in its dedication to creating a better future for the community. I am fully confident that this grant will contribute to ensuring a healthy environment for everyone."

The head of the Greater Karak Municipality committee, Mohammad Al-Manaseer, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Japanese Embassy, affirming the Greater Karak Municipality's pride in its strong and ongoing partnership with it and noting that the municipality was able to acquire these trucks after completing all the outstanding administrative and technical procedures in December (12) of the year 2025, as part of their commitment to translate international grants and support into tangible service projects on the ground.

He explained that this grant comes as a direct response to real needs expressed by the local community and represents a clear model for the impact of international partnerships in supporting sustainable local development, affirming the Greater Karak Municipality’s commitment to the optimal use of these mechanisms with high efficiency and ensuring the sustainability of the project's impact, which positively reflects on the level of services provided to citizens and contributes to the conservation of the local environment.

As part of the Japanese grants for grassroots human security projects, the GGP, Japan has provided more than $10.57 million for 161 projects to non-governmental organizations, schools, hospitals, and municipalities in Jordan since 1993.
