Secrets You Dont Know About Protecting the Kidneys from Chronic Damage

Khaberni -  Chronic kidney disease is incurable, but early diagnosis and treatment can slow its progression or prevent its exacerbation. It occurs when the kidneys fail to filter blood properly, increasing the risk of heart disease, anemia, bone diseases, nerve damage, and even kidney failure.

Globally, about 10% of the population suffers from chronic kidney disease, and the incidence has more than doubled since 1990.

Dr. Michael Shlipak, a researcher in kidney health at the University of California, says: "Symptoms of chronic kidney disease usually do not appear until they are very close to kidney failure".

According to "Health Day", genetic factors and family history of kidney disease increase the risk of developing the disease.
Identifying risk factors

Heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes are common causes of chronic kidney disease, so early diagnosis and treatment of these health conditions are essential.

Obesity, infections, and cancer also increase the risk.

Also, taking large doses of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for long periods can be harmful.
Symptoms

Those with chronic kidney disease may notice swelling in the legs, feet, ankles, hands, or face.

As the disease worsens, they may feel tired, lose their appetite, or suffer from nausea.

Some may experience weight loss, muscle cramps, chest pain, difficulty breathing, or even difficulty concentrating. Eventually, kidney problems can affect the heart.

Shlipak warns, "Advanced kidney disease exhausts the body, especially the heart and brain".
Proactive Prevention Steps

A diet rich in vegetables and fruits that are low in potassium is one of the most important preventive measures against chronic kidney disease.

Among the common recommendations are to avoid foods and drinks high in sodium, potassium, and phosphorus, in addition to exercising, controlling blood sugar levels, and blood pressure.

Those with kidney diseases are advised to avoid excessive protein intake. It is also likely that the doctor will recommend avoiding frequently processed foods.
