Russia withdraws its forces and equipment from Qamishli Airport

Khaberni - Russia withdrew, on Tuesday, troops and equipment from Qamishli Airport in northeastern Syria, according to a Syrian military source.

The Russian forces had initially used the airport located in the predominantly Kurdish city in Hasakah province as a military base since late 2019, following a Turkish assault in the area.

A Syrian military official in Hasakah province said that the Russian forces are withdrawing heavy equipment and weapons from Qamishli Airport by air to Hmeimim Airport, Moscow's main airbase in Latakia province.

This move comes weeks after military escalation between the Syrian army and Kurdish forces who withdrew from large areas previously under their control in Deir Ezzor and Raqqa provinces to predominantly Kurdish areas in their stronghold in Hasakah.
