Diversifying Sports Activities May Reduce Mortality Risks

Khaberni - A recent study has shown that practicing a variety of sports activities significantly reduces the risk of death and contributes to improving overall health and longevity.

The study was conducted by a research team from various universities, including Harvard Medical School, and the researchers monitored the health status of more than 110,000 adults over thirty years, recording the types of sports practiced by the participants, such as walking, running, cycling, strength training, yoga, and stair climbing.

During the study, about 39,000 participants died due to reasons related to heart disease, cancer, and respiratory issues.

The results showed that exercising in itself reduces the risk of death, with walking reducing it by 17% and stair climbing by 10%. However, the greatest benefit was for those who practiced multiple types of sports, as the study showed that diversifying physical activity generally reduces the risk of death by 19%, and reduces the chances of death due to heart and arterial diseases, cancer, and respiratory issues by percentages ranging from 13% to 41%.

HealthDay quoted the researchers saying that the study does not prove a direct causal relationship between exercise and longer life, but it confirms that diversifying physical activity is no less important than exercise itself and is an important factor in improving overall health and reducing mortality risks.
