Khaberni - Last night (Monday), the primary court in Tunisia issued its verdict, sentencing Rached Ghannouchi, the head of the Ennahdha Movement, to 3 years in prison after confirming his involvement in accepting indirect foreign financing. The court also fined the Ennahdha Movement 45,000 Tunisian dinars ($15,000) in one of the cases that garnered widespread interest on the Tunisian political scene.
This verdict comes within the context of a long series of cases faced by Ghannouchi, as previous sentences have been issued against him, including 22 years in prison for espionage, 5 years for foreign funding, and 14 years for conspiring against state security, making these sentences a continuation of a long judicial path that has been pursuing him for years.
The Tunisian authorities arrested Rached Ghannouchi on April 17, 2023, on multiple charges, including conspiring against state security, inciting violence, urging residents to attack each other with weapons, as well as inciting rioting, killing, and looting.
