Agricultural Lending Loans of 64 million Dinars for 12880 farmers in 2025

Khaberni - General Manager of the Agricultural Lending Institution, Engineer Mohammed Doujan, said that the institution had funded more than 12880 farmers and investors in the agricultural sector during the year 2025, including 9350 males and 3650 females, with a total of 46 million Dinars, an increase of 7 million Dinars compared to 2024.
He explained to the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) that 9 million Dinars were granted on the Islamic financing system, while about 11 million Dinars of it were granted on the subsidized loans system (interest-free), for many agricultural projects and programs, for all purposes and agricultural projects whether plant-based or animal-based, and for mechanization and agricultural manufacturing equipment and all production necessities.
He indicated that these loans considered basic pillars for agricultural development, the most important of which is the intensive use of technology and modern techniques and agricultural manufacturing, to secure as much food security as possible for Jordanians, focusing on outskirts and the desert areas, poverty pockets and the family projects associated with women and job seekers to generate agricultural development with a greater impact and support quick-income projects and alleviate poverty and unemployment, where the most notable funded projects involved food manufacturing, developing livestock wealth, projects to reduce poverty and unemployment problems, land reclamation, modern irrigation systems, deficit crops, and renewable energy.
According to the institution, these loans were distributed across the institution's branches, where the volume of loans in the northern branches was 25 million Dinars, central branches 32 million, and southern branches 16 million.
He noted that the institution is keen on financing projects that reduce poverty and unemployment, where 8 million Dinars were allocated benefiting about 2150 job seekers.
He added that consideration was given to directing these loans to the Jordanian desert areas in the north, central, and south regions, and outskirts areas, affirming that the rural financing program continued, aiming to finance projects closely related to the agricultural sector while focusing on local marketing outlets and creating job opportunities for rural inhabitants, with about 4 million Dinars loaned benefiting 938 borrowers.
Doujan confirmed that the institution is moving towards introducing modern technology in agricultural projects, especially advanced water technologies to reduce water consumption and increase its efficient use through the project "My land without interests" valued at 10 million Dinars for 5 years, for introducing water technology, from which 134 farmers benefited with a total value of 1.6 million Dinars, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the World Bank.
He mentioned that since the launch of alternative energy projects (solar energy) the institution has funded more than 270 farmers with about 3.5 million Dinars, of which approximately 1.5 million Dinars were interest-free loans. The maximum limit for one single loan was 20 thousand Dinars under an agreement with the Renewable Energy Encouragement Fund which bears the costs of these interests on behalf of the farmers, including projects such as the support project for livestock breeders, who were granted interest-free loans for purchasing feed last season, launching the smart climate practices project without interests valued at 3.5 million Dinars benefiting 74 borrowers, and the project of Development and Skills Enhancement Authority without interests valued at 1.5 million Dinars benefitting up to 3 borrowers.
Doujan confirmed the conclusion of a series of agreements, including one with the Agricultural Materials Traders Union to provide interest-free loans to borrowers and another agreement with The Jordan Loan Guarantee Company, which will provide guaranties for the financings provided by the Agricultural Lending Institution within a financing portfolio targeting the financing of small farmers, innovative and unconventional projects, and women's projects in the agricultural sector; especially in poverty pockets and rural areas.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed with the Jordanian Date Palm Association, aiming to support date palm farmers and enable them to develop their farms and enhance production efficiency, thereby enhancing the agricultural development pathways in the kingdom, in addition to several memorandums of understanding with agricultural associations including Kafrsoum Pomegranate Producers Association, and the Specific Union of Female Farmers in Ajloun.
He also noted that the number of insured borrowers within the loan life insurance project reached 23340 borrowers, while the volume of insured loans amounted to 115 million Dinars, benefiting from this fund in 46 compensation cases with a total of 216 thousand Dinars.
Moreover, the institution increased its capital to 100 million Dinars instead of 75 million, relying on its own resources, contributing to strengthening its financial position and expanding its lending portfolio for the coming years.
In terms of collection activity, the institution's collections amounted to 64 million Dinars out of the total planned collection of 70 million last year, representing 91 percent, and the institution activated the facilitation decision to return the appropriated lands in settlements with their owners, whereby 4 lands were returned to the farmers, and the amount retrieved was 604 thousand Dinars.
In the area of assessing the impact of loans on the agricultural sector, the results of the study conducted by the General Statistics Department indicated that the institution's loans have a significant impact on several employment areas, water provision, and productivity increase.
The results and field visits to the projects funded by the institution indicate a change in traditional farming patterns towards pioneering unconventional projects such as aquaponics, fish farming, palm cultivation, and other innovative projects.
