Khaberni - The agriculture department at Umm Al-Qatain and Al-Makifata Municipality implemented, on Monday, the planting of a miniature forest in the park of Al-Makifata area with carob trees.
The head of the municipal committee, Talib Al-Hammad, said that the purpose of planting this miniature forest is for sustainability, and to protect the trees as they were planted inside the park, methodically and not haphazardly.
Al-Hammad added that these works were carried out in cooperation with the community police.
He further explained that the Umm Al-Qatain and Al-Makifata Municipality operates scientifically and distinctively, focusing on carob trees due to their benefits and unique appearance, and being a strong and durable tree that withstands drought.
He pointed out that the location for planting carob trees in Al-Makifata park was chosen deliberately, due to the park's proximity to a pond in the Al-Makifata area which had been maintained by the municipality - this will save the municipality with regard to irrigation, and make irrigation efforts cost-effective.
Volcanic tuff was used for its agricultural benefits.
