Khaberni - The official gazette in Kuwait published four decrees and a decision issued by the Cabinet, which decree the withdrawal of Kuwaiti nationality from 65 individuals, in addition to those who acquired it by association.
According to the decrees, Decree No. 4 of 2026 stipulated the withdrawal of citizenship from 54 individuals, while Decree No. 5 decreed the withdrawal from one individual, and Decree No. 6 from two individuals, likewise, Decree No. 7 from two other individuals, while the Cabinet's decision No. 1768 stipulated the withdrawal of the nationality certificate from six individuals.
The list included prominent figures in various fields, among them the former captain of the Kuwaiti national team, Ahmed Al-Tarabulsi, the pioneer of medicine in Kuwait Dr. Yahya Al-Hadidi, and the writer Abdulaziz Al-Surai, in addition to Brigadier Turki Al-Mutairi, which sparked widespread interaction on social media.
Activists considered that some of the names represent Kuwaiti icons that have left a clear mark in the country's history, remembering their long service to the community.
Who is Abdulaziz Al-Surai
Abdulaziz Al-Surai is among the cultural pillars in Kuwait. Born in 1939, he was one of the founders of the Arab Gulf Theatre Group and made a significant impact on the theatrical movement with prominent works, including the play "Lost Rooster" and the series "The Broken Jug", along with several short story collections. He held various cultural and media positions, was honored locally and regionally, and was selected as an honorary president of the Gulf Arab Theatre.
The High Committee for Citizenship Investigation in Kuwait previously decided to withdraw citizenship from the late artist Abdulmohsen Al-Suhail and those who acquired it with him by association. Citizenship was also withdrawn from the late artist Abd al-Razzaq Ibrahim al-Khalf, known by the nickname "Borziga", in addition to stars and celebrities on social media including Nawal Al-Kuwaitia and Dawood Hussein.
