Gold and Silver Near Record High Levels

Khaberni - Gold rose on Tuesday after surpassing the $5100 level for the first time in the previous session, with continued demand for the safe haven amid geopolitical uncertainty, while silver also hovered near its all-time highs.

Gold in spot transactions rose 1% to $5065.07 per ounce by 03:29 GMT, after recording a record level of $5110.50 on Monday.

U.S. futures for gold delivery in February fell 0.4% to $5059.90 per ounce.

The Federal Reserve (the U.S. central bank) is expected to hold interest rates steady at its meeting starting later on Tuesday, amid a criminal investigation conducted by the Trump administration with its chairman Jerome Powell.

Silver in spot transactions rose 5.2% to $109.22 per ounce, after recording a record high of $117.69 on Monday. Silver has already risen by 53% since the beginning of the year.

Platinum in spot transactions fell 2.5% to $2658.19 per ounce after recording a record level of $2918.80 in the previous session, while palladium fell 1.3% to $1956.31 per ounce.
