Khaberni - The Syrian Ministry of Interior seized a huge shipment of liquid cocaine in Latakia port aboard a ship coming from Brazil.
The Ministry of Interior, in a post on the X platform today, Monday, stated that the shipment was cleverly hidden inside vegetable oil containers and prepared for smuggling to one of the neighboring countries.
It was explained that the operation was carried out based on precise and reliable intelligence information, followed by tight field surveillance, resulting in the complete apprehension of the shipment before it left the port.
The Ministry clarified that the seized items were confiscated, and that the specialized security teams continue to investigate the circumstances of the case to identify all those involved, in preparation for taking legal deterrent actions against them, in accordance with relevant national and international laws.
It was pointed out that this operation is part of the ongoing efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration in combating drug smuggling networks, maintaining public security, and preventing the infiltration of narcotics into local and international markets.
In mid-December, the Ministry of Interior announced a joint security operation with Iraqi authorities targeting an international drug smuggling network, which resulted in the arrest of 3 individuals and the seizure of about 2.5 million Captagon pills.
The Syrian Ministry of Internal Affairs also announced, in late October, the seizure of 11 million Captagon pills in a vehicle coming from Lebanon, in a quantity considered the largest since the ministry began its work.
In June 2025, the Ministry announced the seizure of 3 million Captagon pills after a clash with a smuggling cell it said was coming from Lebanon to Syrian territory.
Captagon has been one of Syria's major exports since 2011, with the sale of this stimulating and illegal substance serving as a primary source of funding for the deposed Assad regime.
Neighboring countries still periodically announce the seizure of large quantities of this narcotic substance.
