AlKharabsheh Providing Syria with gas increased the electricity supply hours to 14 hours

Khaberni - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Saleh Al-Kharabsheh stated on Monday that the currently required amount of natural gas for generating electricity in Syria is around 4 million cubic meters, as part of the support provided by Jordan to Syria.

Al-Kharabsheh clarified during remarks to the "Kingdom" satellite channel that this support stems from directions by His Majesty King Abdullah II to the government to provide all forms of support needed by Syria in various sectors, pointing out that there is ongoing cooperation between Jordan and Syria in the energy field.

He explained that Syria faces a shortage in the gas needed to generate electricity, noting that Jordan exploits the available infrastructure on the Jordanian side to attract liquefied natural gas from global markets, which is then regasified and pumped through the Arab Gas Pipeline to the power generating stations in southern Syria.

He pointed out that these quantities of gas contribute to providing the necessary fuel for two main stations in southern Syria, leading to an increase in electricity supply hours from about two hours to 14 hours daily.

He added that Syria imports quantities of gas through Jordan and other quantities through northern Syria, explaining that importing from both the southern and northern sides has contributed to an increase in the electricity supply hours by 12 hours, making it 14 hours instead of two.

Al-Kharabsheh confirmed that, following the directions of His Majesty the King, Jordan places all its capabilities at the disposal of our brethren in Syria to assist them in developing various sectors, particularly the energy sector.

Jordan and Syria signed an agreement in Damascus for the sale and purchase of natural gas, aimed at supplying Syria with gas through Jordanian territory, which contributes to supporting the Syrian electricity sector and alleviating the energy shortage.

The agreement stipulates that Jordan will supply the Syrian side with about (4) million cubic meters of natural gas daily, equivalent to about (140) million cubic feet, which will directly contribute to the stabilization of the electrical system in Syria and support the operation of generating stations.

Jordan has actually started supplying Syria with gas as of January 1, 2026, with quantities ranging between (30–90) million cubic feet per day, as part of urgent support for the Syrian energy sector and contributing to reducing the power outage hours.
