Khaberni - Fire incidents continued to pose a significant challenge to urban safety in Istanbul during 2025, as the fire brigades responded to a total of 27,820 fire reports throughout the city.
The Turkish newspaper "Daily Sabah" reported today, Sunday, that official data revealed that a fire broke out every 18 minutes and 54 seconds, reflecting the continuous pressure on emergency services in one of the major Turkish cities.
According to statistics from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, "negligence and misuse" topped the list of causes, accounting for 7,931 incidents, or 28.5% of the total recorded fires.
The administration attributed these incidents primarily to everyday behaviors, including unsafe disposal of cigarette butts, children tampering with flame sources, and leaving stoves and lighters unmonitored, highlighting the central role of human factors in increasing fire risk levels.
