Two Jordanian Experts Drug User Behaviors Change and Families Can Detect Them

Khaberni - Member of the Senate and security expert, Ammar Al-Qudah, and former head of the Addicts Treatment Center, Fawaz Al-Masa'eed, agreed that drugs have become directly linked to the crimes that occur in society.

They said during their talk on “Al-Mamlaka” that the behavior of drug users shows different behaviors from their usual ones, and that families can easily detect them.

Al-Qudah said that drugs are considered a driving force for crime; due to auditory and visual hallucinations resulting from brain cell dysfunction, exposing the person to impulsive cases and auditory cases of seeing things that do not exist in their environment, in addition to the presence of a defect in eye observations and their interpretation, where these events occur as a result of the impact of drugs on the responsible centers in the brain.

He added that the behavior issued by the person in such cases is not normal, and is not under his full control, but is under the influence of drugs that push him to commit these crimes, emphasizing the importance of the family's role in monitoring the behavior of the children.

Al-Qudah indicated that the behaviors of drug users can be easily detected by the family, noting that between 50-60% of the major crimes in the Major Felony Court, such as various types of murder, rape, degradation, and kidnapping, are linked to drug use.

Al-Qudah pointed out that there is a common factor among the murders committed by addicts of "shabu" and "crystal meth", which is the method of criminal action executed, where there are chemical characteristics in these substances that determine the method of committing the murder.

Al-Qudah indicated that the Anti-Narcotics Department in the General Security Directorate conducted about 7893 awareness activities during 2025, emphasizing the importance of the role of community awareness, especially the family.

Al-Qudah called for the necessity of conducting a drug test before marriage, and that it should be present in the law, noting that many Arab countries have adopted this system and succeeded in it.

For his part, Al-Masa'eed said that drugs are linked to most of the crimes committed in society, noting that a person addicted to drugs might resort to committing theft, violence, murder, or harm, and that might extend to fraud and causing traffic accidents.

Al-Masa'eed pointed out that drug use leads to changes in brain function, affecting brain and nerve cells, which reflects on a person's sensations and emotions, making him lose fatherly feelings towards his parents, family, and wife.

Al-Masa'eed indicated that being under the influence of toxic and lethal substances might push a person to commit murder, confirming that many crimes have been primarily caused by drug use.

He mentioned that when a person needs the drug, he begins to search for its price, and if the money is not available, and after he requests it from people close to him, he begins to use violence against others, considering that "the worst enemies of the addict are the family" because they strive to deter him from using.

Al-Masa'eed added that there are crimes committed against the family; due to the addict's need for a drug dose to continue his daily life.

He emphasized that clear symptoms must appear on drug users, the first of which is a change in behavior, stressing that any family that understands the usual behaviors of their children, and if a sudden change in behavior occurs, this is an indicator of the possible start of usage.

He explained that the user cannot control himself; due to his constant need for money, which may push him to consider theft, or to use violence.
