Death of an Egyptian Football Player During a Match

Khaberni - Egyptian football fields witnessed a tragic event this Sunday evening, as the Al-Bakari Youth Center announced the death of one of its players following a fatal injury during his team's match against the Sheikh Zayed club in the 16th round of Group Two of the Division Four league.

The center confirmed the death of its young player, Loay Ali, who succumbed to his injuries after the match saw a violent and strong intervention by the Sheikh Zayed team's goalkeeper, resulting in a direct and severe injury that caused a perforation in the stomach.

Immediately, the player was transported to the hospital where his condition necessitated emergency surgery in an attempt to save his life, but he passed away inside the hospital.

A victory turned into mourning
The match had ended with Al-Bakari Youth Center defeating Sheikh Zayed by two goals to none, a victory that turned into mourning following the announcement of the death.

The death of player Loay Ali reminds us of a series of tragedies that have shaken Egyptian fields, where in recent years there have been painful incidents of players losing their lives either on the green rectangle or due to sudden health injuries and complications
The case of international player Ahmed Refaat was the most impactful recently, where he collapsed suddenly during his team's match against El-Ittihad Alexandria in March 2024 due to a heart muscle stoppage.

Shocks in the sports community
Despite regaining consciousness and undergoing a long treatment journey, he passed away in July 2024, leaving a great shock in the sports community and the Egyptian street.

In a similar incident to what happened with Loay Ali in the "League of the Downtrodden", player Samy Said passed away in December 2022 during his team Matruh's match against El Saloum in the Third Division league, after swallowing his tongue and the futile attempts to save him on the field.

The tragedies were not limited to players alone, but also extended to coaches where Adham Al-Selhadar passed away in December 2021 due to a severe heart attack he suffered while celebrating his team El-Majd Alexandria's winning goal in the last moments of the match.
