Khaberni - A new humanitarian disaster occurred in the city of Aleppo following the collapse of a dilapidated residential building, resulting in casualties and injuries amid extremely difficult rescue conditions.
The Al-Ameriyah neighborhood in Aleppo witnessed a tragic incident following the collapse of a residential building onto its inhabitants, leading to several deaths and injuries, according to the Syrian Civil Defense.
The Civil Defense explained that the rescue teams had to work manually using primitive tools, fearing that heavy machinery would cause the collapse of nearby buildings, due to the fragile nature of the area containing old and structurally unsupported homes.
The neighborhoods of Al-Ameriyah, which were heavily bombed during the years of war, have suffered extensive cracks in the buildings, making them more susceptible to collapse over time.
According to a post on the official page of the Civil Defense, the body of a 15-year-old child was recovered from under the debris, while search operations for other individuals believed to be trapped under the rubble continue.
Harsh weather conditions in recent days, including snowfall and rain, have exacerbated the situation of the cracked buildings, especially those that underwent superficial repairs that could not withstand the last polar wave.
In this context, the Civil Defense has issued a warning to residents about the necessity to evacuate buildings at risk of collapse, emphasizing that partial repairs are futile due to the severe damage inflicted on these buildings from previous bombings.
