Khaberni - Amal Al-Falah Al-Sagrouchni, Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, confirmed that sports have transformed from a recreational activity to an industry that increasingly relies on technology and data, emphasizing Morocco’s ambition to become a regional hub for digital innovation and artificial intelligence in sports.
This was stated during the opening speech delivered by the Minister at the third session of the Sport Technology Summit (Sportech Summit), organized by "Moroccan Sports and Games" on the initiative of "Accelab", with the participation of experts and entrepreneurs in the field of sports technology.
Huge numbers and promising opportunities
Al-Sagrouchni reviewed digital indicators that reflect the growing economic weight of the sports sector globally, noting that the revenues of the sports industry exceeded 520 billion dollars in 2024, with an annual growth rate of 8%.
She pointed out that this sector, despite its vitality, remains less digitalized compared to other cultural industries, opening wide prospects for investment, especially with forecasts that artificial intelligence and digital transformation will add about 130 billion dollars annually to the global sports economy.
Morocco Digital 2030 on the ground
The Minister explained that this direction is part of the "Morocco Digital 2030" vision, which places innovation and entrepreneurship at the heart of economic development.
She added that the ministry, following the royal directives, has started structural reforms to update the legal framework and enhance digital trust, enabling Moroccan startups to develop competitive solutions in the field of sports technology.
Artificial intelligence and institutes of excellence
Al-Sagrouchni highlighted the pivotal role of artificial intelligence in enhancing the competitiveness of the sector, confirming that sports have been adopted as one of the primary areas for artificial intelligence applications in Morocco.
In this context, she referred to the "Al-Jazari Institutes" initiative, which aims to create centers of excellence that connect innovation with real needs, including an institute dedicated to managing major sports events and smart cities, which enhances national sovereignty in technical expertise.
Human capital at the core of the bet
The Minister concluded her speech by emphasizing the importance of investing in human capital, considering that the sports industry in the future will be an industry of skills and data, and calling for the qualification of Moroccan youth to be producers of technology, not just consumers of it.
She also expressed hope that this summit would enhance partnerships and stimulate investment in Moroccan startups, supporting Morocco's position as a regional and international reference in sports technology, coinciding with the kingdom's preparation to host major global sports events.
