Khaberni - The United States witnessed the cancellation of more than four thousand flights before severe winter storms caused power outages for more than 230,000 people from the West to Texas and threatened to paralyze the eastern states due to heavy snowfall.
Weather experts said that snow and freezing rain accompanied by very cold weather would sweep two-thirds of the eastern country on Sunday and during the week.
President Donald Trump described the storms as "historic," and on Saturday approved the issuance of federal emergency disaster warnings in South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Indiana, and West Virginia.
Trump said in a post on Truth Social, "We will continue monitoring and stay in contact with all the states in the path of this storm. Stay safe and stay warm."
According to the Department of Homeland Security, 17 states declared emergencies due to the weather.
A website tracking power outages reported that the numbers are increasing, and by 2:44 AM Eastern Time (0744 GMT) on Sunday, about 230,000 customers in the United States, mostly in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Tennessee, were without power.
The flight tracking website FlightAware reported that by 10:21 PM Eastern Time on Saturday, more than 4,000 American flights scheduled to depart on Saturday were cancelled. More than 9,400 flights scheduled for Sunday were also cancelled.
