Ministry of Environment Waste Sorting as a National Strategy to Enhance the Circular Economy and Protect the Environment

Khaberni - The Ministry of Environment stated that the instructions for the environmental and technical requirements for sorting recyclable materials from non-hazardous solid waste for the year 2025 aim to enhance the waste management system in the Kingdom and achieve comprehensive economic, social, and environmental dimensions.

Spokesperson for the ministry, Shuruq Abu Taleb, confirmed that the instructions for environmental and technical requirements for sorting recyclable materials from non-hazardous solid waste for the year 2025 aim to reinforce the waste management system in the Kingdom and achieve integrated economic, social, and environmental dimensions.

The instructions encourage the private sector to invest in waste management and implement circular economy concepts, reducing operational costs associated with waste collection, transportation, and sorting while increasing the efficiency of financial resource investments and reducing the pressure on landfills by converting a large portion of the waste into raw materials for processing industries.

Abu Taleb explained that the instructions contribute to creating new job opportunities in sorting, recycling, and transportation fields and help integrate workers from the informal sector into a formal system by increasing the number of certified service-providing companies, affirming that improving waste management positively reflects on life quality and the tourist environment by reducing the phenomenon of random waste disposal and improving air and water quality, and reducing waste accumulation in natural areas.

She pointed out that the instructions ensure strict regulatory mechanisms, including requiring producers of recyclable materials and service providers to submit all related documents and records concerning quantities, contracts, and receipts within a maximum period of 30 days and to provide annual reports to the ministry, comply with the environmental information and monitoring system, including registration on the electronic system and the preparation of approved waste management plans for monitoring and evaluation.

This orientation aligns with the vision of economic modernization and the government's commitment to improve the efficiency of resource use, support local industries, and create new job opportunities in local communities.
