"The New York Times" reported that authorities said that the fire department was called to the 17-story complex during the night after reports of a gas smell there.
A gas explosion caused a fire in a high-rise building in the "Bronx" area of New York City.
Media reports on Saturday stated that one person died and 14 others were injured, one of them critically, and all were reportedly transported to local hospitals.
One firefighter was also injured, but his injuries are not critical.
The authorities were forced to evacuate about 150 residential apartments.
