Khaberni - Solos Technology, headquartered in Hong Kong, has filed a lawsuit in a US court against Meta Platforms and EssilorLuxottica, accusing them of copying technologies it developed for smart glasses and using them in competing products.
The company stated in a patent infringement lawsuit filed in the Federal Court in Massachusetts that the products of both companies rely on “core technologies” developed by Solos, including sound, sensors, processing, and other features related to smart glasses.
The lawsuit claims that “Meta’s” collaboration with eyewear brands owned by “EssilorLuxottica”, such as Ray-Ban and Oakley, infringes on five patents owned by Solos, seeking damages that could amount to “several billion dollars”, in addition to court orders to prevent the continued alleged infringement.
No immediate comment was issued by spokespersons for “Meta” or “EssilorLuxottica”, while a spokesperson for Solos said that the complaint “speaks for itself”.
Solos was founded after separating from the American wearable device company Kopin Corp in 2019.
According to the lawsuit, employees at “Meta” had access to Solos' products, reviewed its patents, and interacted with its inventors, before “Meta” began selling its smart glasses in 2021.
Solos indicated that the revenue from Ray-Ban smart glasses by “Meta” is expected to reach about 10 billion dollars by 2030.
The case is registered under the name: Solos Technology Ltd versus Meta Platforms Inc in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts. - Reuters
