Khaberni - The Cybercrime and Cybersecurity Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation in Dubai Police warned against misuse of the Internet and social media platforms for insulting others with terms of abuse that make them subjects of contempt, pointing out that circulating these expressions subjects the perpetrator to legal liability.
Dubai Police, in a press release obtained by 24, explained that Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 regarding combating rumors and cybercrimes, punishes abusive expressions on the internet and social media platforms under Article 43 which states in its first paragraph: "Anyone who insults others or attributes to them an act that could make them subject to punishment or contempt by others, using an information network, Information technology tools, or an information system, shall be punished with imprisonment and a fine of not less than 250,000 dirhams and not exceeding 500,000 dirhams, or with one of these two penalties."
