Khaberni - Reports published by the Catalonian newspaper "Sport" revealed that the management of FC Barcelona has started its official moves to fortify its young talent Fermin Lopez with a new contract, following the impressive levels he has shown under the guidance of coach Hansi Flick, including his notable performance against Slavia Prague in the Champions League, scoring a brace.
"Sport" clarified that the club has already met with the player’s agent, who is 22 years old, to discuss extending his current contract, which is set to expire in 2029.
The purpose of this move by Barca is to offer Fermin a significant pay rise and extend his contract by an additional two years, thereby cutting off the road to English club Chelsea, which showed great interest in acquiring him and made an offer last summer that was rejected by the player.
On the field, Lopez has proven to be an indispensable element in Flick's plans, with statistics indicating his contribution to a goal or a crucial assist approximately every 76 minutes, achieving 10 goals and 10 crucial assists this year in only 24 matches, making him the "jewel" that Barcelona refuses to let go despite financial temptations.
