Khaberni - The trial of a woman accused of committing a horrific murder began in Britain, dating back more than 15 years, after investigations revealed that she had killed her partner, dismembered her body, and buried her in the garden of her Derby home, in a case that remained mysterious for many years before the details were recently revealed in court.
According to the "Daily Mail", Anna Poddyedforna, who is 40 years old, faces charges of killing her 30-year-old partner, Isabella Zaplotska, out of romantic jealousy, in addition to charges of preventing lawful burial and perverting the course of justice, all of which she denies.
How did she dispose of the body?
The crime occurred in August 2010 in a shared house in Derby, where the victim suffered what the prosecution described as a violent death before the accused cut up the body, placed the remains in plastic bags, and buried it in a hole in the garden, then covering it with a layer of concrete to hide the crime.
The prosecution stated that the accused was working at that time as a professional butcher in a poultry factory, which enabled her to execute and completely hide the crime; it also indicated that her subsequent actions reflected a deliberate planning to hide the evidence, before continuing her life normally for many years.
The victim's news stopped reaching her family in Poland after a last phone call with her mother, prompting the family to report her disappearance in Britain, then in Poland, and the case remained unresolved without answers for years.
The crime remained a secret until 2025, when a Polish journalist contacted the accused to inquire about the victim’s fate, a move described by the prosecution as the turning point that drove the accused to message the police and confess the location of the buried body.
The police subsequently found the victim's remains in the former couple's home garden, where DNA analysis confirmed her identity, although the condition of the remains after all those years prevented accurately determining the cause of death.
During the investigations, the accused claimed that the death was the result of an accidental fight, and that she acted in self-defense, which the prosecution considered to be a fabricated story aimed at reducing criminal responsibility.
