Torture and Abuse of About 2000 Prisoners from Gaza Despite Ceasefire

Khaberni - The Prisoners Media Office reports that about 2000 prisoners from the Gaza Strip are still being tortured and mistreated inside Israeli occupation prisons and camps, despite the ceasefire, following the arrest of more than 14,000 citizens since the beginning of the genocide war.

The office explained in a statement issued today, Friday, that the occupation forces detain the prisoners in harsh conditions inside Ofer, Negev, and Sdei Teiman prisons, and “Rikivt” camp, where blankets and mattresses are withheld for long hours, increasing their suffering during the winter.

It also pointed to the continuation of starvation policies against the prisoners, by providing meager meals that do not meet the minimum nutritional needs, which led to a significant number of them losing weight and deteriorating health conditions, especially the sick and wounded.

The statement highlighted ongoing religious and living violations, including banning group prayers, banning the Quran, restricting recreation time, preventing showers, and providing hygiene supplies, which has led to the spread of severe skin diseases among the prisoners.

According to the office, these policies have resulted in the martyrdom of 51 identified prisoners from Gaza since October 7th, 2023, in addition to dozens of prisoners with unknown fate, amidst enforced disappearance and categorizing hundreds of detainees as “unlawful combatants”.

The Prisoners Media Office demanded urgent international intervention to release the prisoners of Gaza, cease violations immediately, ensure independent international visits, and hold the occupation accountable according to international law.

Human rights reports indicate a sharp escalation in these violations since October 7th, 2023, amid collective punitive measures and unprecedented tightening inside the prisons, amidst international silence and a clear inability to hold the occupation accountable or provide the necessary protection for Palestinian prisoners.
