Khaberni – Ministry of Water and Irrigation spokesperson, Omar Salamah, said that rainfall has harvested about 150 million cubic meters in the dams, reaching a percentage of between 75 - 80% of the dams' storage capacity, which he considers to be very excellent.
Salamah said on the "Sixty Minutes" program today, Friday, that hopes are pinned on the winter "Fifty days" to increase the storage percentage even more.
Regarding the Al-Wehda Dam situation, he noted that its replenishment is still scant because 90% of its feeding comes from valleys on the Syrian side, and so far its storage capacity has not exceeded a few thousand cubic meters.
Salamah also mentioned that most areas of the dam basin on the Syrian side had been suffering from continuous illegal well drilling since the time of the former regime, but the current authorities are working to remove these violations and have banned well drilling to restore the dam’s reservoir.
