Khaberni - The British Ministry of Defense announced it will send a squadron of fighter jets to a Qatari base amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
This deployment includes the Royal Air Force's twelfth squadron, a British-Qatari joint unit that operates Typhoon aircraft.
The Ministry stated that the squadron "has been deployed in the Gulf region for defensive purposes, amid regional tensions, under the defense assurance agreement between the United Kingdom and Qatar."
Regional tensions escalated after US President Donald Trump issued a series of threats following what he described as "Iran's brutal crackdown" on anti-regime protests.
Trump expressed his support for the protesters, called for regime change, and raised the possibility of US military action against the Iranian leadership.
Tehran warned that any American strike would lead to a "devastating retaliatory response."
Earlier this week, Trump said that "the entire country would be destroyed" if Iran took any military action against the United States.
Qatar is a key ally of the United States in the region, hosting a significant American military presence at Al Udeid Air Base.
In October of last year, the United Kingdom and Qatar signed a new defense assurance agreement that enhances cooperation between them in defense.
Last week, the US Department of Defense announced the establishment of the Middle East Air Defense Cooperative Defense Operations Cell (MEAD-CDOC) at Al Udeid Air Base to improve the integration of defense efforts.
