Khaberni - The Greater Irbid Municipality stated that preliminary technical examinations showed the existence of a leak in the sewage lines passing beneath Islamabad Street in northern Irbid, which led to soil erosion and a partial collapse of the street.
Imad Al-Azzam, the head of the Irbid Municipality Committee, stated in a press release today, Thursday, that the increased sewage pressure inside the lines caused water seepages that directly affected the stability of the street's infrastructure, and the area affected by the collapse is about 3 meters.
He confirmed that the municipality took immediate precautionary measures, involving partially closing the street to traffic to ensure the safety of citizens and to prevent accidents, and he mentioned that coordination with relevant authorities to address the fault has begun.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Water and Water Authority and the Sewage Management Directorate were contacted to expedite the repair of the damaged lines, emphasizing the necessity of addressing the problem fundamentally before initiating street restoration works to ensure that the collapse does not recur.
Al-Azzam explained that the municipality staff would remain present at the site to monitor the progress of the work in cooperation with the competent authorities, and that the priority at this stage is to repair the technical fault and reopen the road to traffic as quickly as possible and according to the highest public safety standards.
