Ministry of Industry and Trade announces the outcomes of the first phase of the national strategy for ecommerce

 

Khaberni - وزارة الصناعة والتجارة والتموين announced today, Thursday, the outcomes of the first phase of the national e-commerce strategy (2023–2025), which represented a foundational stage for building the institutional and regulatory framework of the e-commerce ecosystem in the kingdom, aligned with the vision of economic modernization, and enhancing the role of small and medium enterprises in digital transformation and increasing their competitive capabilities.
According to a statement from the ministry; the announcement came after a meeting of the national e-commerce team, headed by the Secretary-General of the ministry, Dana Al-Zu'bi, yesterday, Wednesday. The meeting reviewed the key achievements during the first phase, which focused on legislation, capacity building, and improving the regulatory and logistical environment for e-commerce.
The ministry affirmed that among the key outcomes of the first phase was the development of the institutional and regulatory framework for e-commerce, through reviewing regulatory legislations, preparing a draft e-commerce system after conducting comparative studies with several countries, and in cooperation with partner entities and World Bank experts, where the draft is now in its final stages.
The outcomes also included organizing a mechanism for importing postal parcels and low-value shipments, in coordination with relevant entities, contributing to the facilitation of procedures and improving the e-commerce environment for individuals and companies.
In the capacity building and digital readiness axis, the ministry implemented a series of specialized training programs targeting small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurs in the fields of creating and managing e-commerce stores, digital marketing, electronic payment systems, and logistics. Significant among them was the training of 29 companies within the EcomConnect program, with preparations underway to launch the second round to train an additional 23 companies, and holding awareness workshops in cooperation with the Jordanian Logistics Association about exporting through e-commerce, launching the Click-Business program in cooperation with the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO), launching international training academies for e-commerce and logistics at the Jordan Post, conducting training programs in payment solutions and financial technology through the Central Bank of Jordan's FinTech Academy, and launching the TechForward initiative in cooperation with 12 universities to link graduation projects with private sector companies in the fields of digital platforms, e-commerce marketing, and artificial intelligence.
In the logistics, trade facilitation, and payment solutions axis, the ministry simplified the clearance procedures for postal parcels by establishing the customs center for e-commerce and rapid transport in Al-Muqabaleen, in cooperation with the Jordan Post, in addition to launching specialized training programs in the fields of logistics, delivery, and e-commerce, including the "Entrepreneurial Post" program.
Furthermore, supportive banking tools for cross-border e-commerce were developed by the Central Bank of Jordan, including the services Click-Plus and Business Light Account, aimed at providing faster and lower-cost payment solutions for the business sector.
The ministry indicated that in the next phase, a national database for e-commerce will be established, which will include economic indicators and relevant data, to support the decision-making process and assess economic impact.
Zu'bi stated that the focus during the first phase was on transitioning from planning to practical implementation, emphasizing that the next phase will focus on the operational launch of the national e-commerce platform, expanding support for Jordanian companies, linking e-commerce with increasing exports and creating job opportunities, and enhancing the competitiveness of the Jordanian digital economy.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continue working with all partners to enhance the role of e-commerce as a lever for economic growth and enabling Jordanian companies to compete regionally and globally.
