Municipalities of the Kingdom plant about 70000 trees as part of the afforestation and greening campaign this Thursday

Khaberni - Today, Thursday, 100 municipalities in the Kingdom, out of a total of 104, planted around 70,000 trees as part of the national afforestation and greening campaign executed by the Ministry of Local Administration, in collaboration and coordination with the Ministries of Youth and Agriculture, aiming to plant over 250,000 forest and shade trees across various municipal areas in the Kingdom before the end of February next month.

The Ministry of Local Administration stated that the campaign includes all the municipalities of the Kingdom, where efforts are intensified during this and the next month, for the sustainability of the plantations, benefiting from the suitable climatic conditions during the winter, especially the increased soil moisture due to rainfall.

The ministry explained that the campaign will continue during the current January and the upcoming February, contributing to enhancing the chances of success of the plantations, establishing their roots, and reducing the need for irrigation, in line with national orientations towards environmental protection and increasing green cover.

Personnel from the municipalities, joint services councils, municipal affairs, along with volunteers from youth centers, directorates of agriculture, education directorates, the Public Security Directorate, associations, and the local community participated in the tree planting, urging everyone to participate in the campaign.

The ministry directed the municipalities to plant trees along the main and circular roads surrounding the cities, creating what is known as the "green belt," emphasizing the importance of caring for the planted sites and their sustainability, expanding the green cover, improving the environmental and urban landscape, and mitigating the effects of climate change.
