Khaberni - A severe weather wave hit Greece in the last few hours, causing widespread floods that claimed the lives of at least two people and led to the declaration of a state of emergency in several areas, including the capital, Athens.
Local media reports indicate that heavy rains and strong thunderstorms have swept the country, accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of about 140 kilometers per hour, especially in the southern Aegean Sea, prompting authorities to suspend ferry services as a precautionary measure.
The Macedonian News Agency in Athens reported that one of the victims was a member of the coast guard, who slipped while inspecting a small port in the Peloponnese peninsula and fell into the sea where he was swept away by high waves. In a separate incident, a 56-year-old woman died in Athens after being trapped by floodwaters while returning home from work.
