UN Refugee Agency AlAzraq Camp Enters a New Phase of Sustainable Electricity Supply

Khaberni - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan confirmed that thousands of families in the Al-Azraq refugee camp have, for the first time since the camp was established, been able to access electricity around the clock throughout the week, marking a shift that puts an end to the years of daily disruptions that restricted basic life within the camp.

Yousef Taha, a spokesperson for the Commission, said in a press statement on Thursday that the "Power Distributors" project implemented by the Commission and its partners has introduced a fairer, more efficient, and sustainable electricity management system, allowing each family to use energy continuously according to their daily needs.

He emphasized that this development is not only about improving services but also represents a “lifeline” for children studying after sunset, for patients dependent on uninterrupted medical devices, and for parents striving to provide a safe and dignified environment for their families.

The Commission confirmed its commitment to continue expanding this system to include more families, with the aim of ensuring clean and reliable energy access for everyone, noting that about 2000 families comprising over 10,500 refugees now enjoy continuous electricity supply, with coverage expected to extend to 70% of the camp by mid-2026.
