Khaberni - Deputy Engineer Adnan Mashooqa addressed a parliamentary question to Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan, concerning the fate of the field hospitals established during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mashooqa asked how these hospitals could be utilized after the purpose for which they were established has ended, and which body is responsible for managing and supervising them.
He demanded the government clarify the current operational status of these hospitals, and whether there is a clear government plan for leveraging them or converting them into permanent health facilities that serve the health sector.
He also inquired about the total final audited cost of establishing the field hospitals, and the auditing and accountability measures taken for the projects that were underused or poorly utilized, considering the need to rationalize public spending and ensure good management of public funds.
The parliamentary question included an inquiry about the operational costs and current maintenance expenses of the non-operating field hospitals, as well as the fate of the medical and administrative staff who were appointed to work in them during the pandemic.
Mashooqa demanded that the government provide him with the official final number of field hospitals established to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, their bed capacity, locations, and the bodies overseeing them, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in this vital file that affects the health sector and public funds.
