UAE Recommendation to increase maternity leave to 98 paid days

Khaberni - The UAE Federal National Council discussed the topic «family protection, its concept, and entity», in the presence of the Minister of Family Sana bint Mohammed Suhail, during its fourth session of the third ordinary term of the 18th legislative chapter.

The Council recommended during the session to increase the duration of maternity leave in the public sector to a minimum of 98 paid days, in line with global practices, and to allow its division after childbirth, especially in cases of premature births. It also emphasized the importance of activating the ministerial decision to establish nurseries in government institutions, and equalizing working women in the private sector with their counterparts in the public sector through incentive measures for family-supporting institutions.

The recommendations included enhancing the balance between work and family life, supporting mothers, empowering widows, protecting families from violence, in addition to supporting young people about to marry, which enhances societal cohesion and family stability.
