Home Activities in Leisure Time Enhance Brain Health

Khaberni- A recent study has revealed that engaging in certain home activities during leisure time enhances brain capabilities and improves memory.
The study was conducted by an international group of scientists and researchers under the supervision of specialists from the University of Queensland, and involved analyzing data from more than one million middle-aged and elderly people from 30 countries. They compared everyday home activities with measures of memory, attention, and thinking among the participants.

The researchers found that "active sitting" activities such as reading, playing cards, solving puzzles, or working on the computer enhance brain capabilities and improve concentration, while spending leisure time watching TV is associated with memory decline and reduced cognitive skills.

The researchers noted that health guidelines usually recommend "sitting less" during leisure time at home, without distinguishing between the types of activities that can be practiced. However, the results indicate that it's not just about the duration of sitting, but what the person does during their leisure time.

The scientists emphasize that the discussion is not about replacing physical activity with sitting and engaging in certain hobbies, as movement is essential for health. However, during those hours when sitting cannot be avoided, choosing more intellectually active activities like reading instead of watching TV can help preserve brain health and reduce the risk of cognitive decline as one ages.
