A common vegetable that may lower cholesterol and improve heart health

Khaberni - Health reports revealed an inexpensive vegetable that can contribute to lowering blood cholesterol levels within a short period not exceeding four weeks, which is the eggplant, scientifically classified among fruits although used as a vegetable in cooking, with a price of about 95 cents per piece.

High cholesterol is a common health issue that does not cause direct symptoms, but over time it increases the risk of atherosclerosis, heart disease, and strokes. Diet plays a key role in controlling its levels, as saturated fats raise harmful cholesterol, while some foods rich in fiber and antioxidants help lower it.

In this context, Cheryl Leithgow explained that eggplants contain antioxidants and dietary fiber that may help reduce harmful cholesterol (LDL), in addition to supporting immunity and brain functions.

These recommendations are supported by the British Heart Association, which pointed out that the fiber in eggplants could reduce the absorption of cholesterol from the intestines into the bloodstream.

A study published in the Journal of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology showed that consuming eggplant juice contributed to lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels in rabbits with high cholesterol over four weeks, compared to groups that did not consume it.

Health guidelines recommend maintaining the total cholesterol level at 5 millimoles/liter or less, with the necessity of adopting a healthy lifestyle including a balanced diet, and regular physical activity for at least 150 minutes weekly.

Doctors advise people concerned about their cholesterol levels to have periodic check-ups and consult a specialist before making any radical changes in their diet.
