Khaberni - The Agriculture and Water Committee in the Senate, chaired by Akef Al-Zoubi, met on Wednesday with the Minister of Agriculture, Saeb Khreisat, to discuss the reality of forests and the encroachments on forest areas.
Akef Al-Zoubi stated that the meeting was held to discuss the current state of forests and the challenges they face, to discuss major projects and plans for preserving forest wealth, and to explore enhancing positive collaboration and cooperation on common issues in the agricultural sector.
For his part, Khreisat presented an overview of the ministry’s major plans and projects designed to protect forest wealth, indicating that the ministry continues its measures to control encroachments on forest wealth.
He pointed out that the ministry cooperates continuously with relevant entities in a reforestation plan for trees in areas aiming at achieving set targets.
Meanwhile, the committee members recommended increasing the number of rangers, rehabilitating observation towers and equipping them with cameras, sustaining cooperation with the Royal Air Force in firefighting, using drones in forest surveillance operations, monitoring locations and sites selling firewood to ensure the source of their wood, expanding media activities related to the protection of forest wealth, and regulating the import of electric saws, limiting them to specialized companies and services that genuinely need them, as the ministry has previously organized these measures.
