The government offers an investment opportunity to establish an alternative toll road between Ajloun and Amman

Khaberni - The government is preparing to offer an investment opportunity to establish an alternative toll road between Ajloun and Amman, according to the design, build, finance, operate, and transfer system, in partnership with the private sector.

According to government data monitored by "Al-Mamlaka," the project will include a 15 km direct link between the Amman-Irbid road (Highway 35) and the Ajloun-Irbid road (Highway 55).

The general budget for the year 2026 shows that the government has allocated 4 million dinars for the project in 2026 (re-estimate), 500,000 dinars as an estimate for the year 2026, and 1 million dinars as indicative for each of the years 2027 and 2028.

In October last year, the government announced the beginning of the implementation of the amended system for road service fees, with the system starting on the Harranah-Al Omari road.

The system exempts government and military vehicles, ambulances, and official delegation vehicles of all types from paying road service fees.

The implementation of the alternative roads concept serves as a model for a project that the government has been working on since 2007, and was proposed for implementation under the executive program of the economic modernization vision.

The Ministry of Public Works confirmed that the concept of toll alternative roads will not be applied to any currently open road used by citizens, and the project will only include opening new roads or completing sections of the ring roads, which have been partially opened and require significant funds for completion. These sections will be offered as investment opportunities to be implemented in partnership with the private sector.

The ministry also reiterates that no road service fees will be imposed on any road without the existence of a free alternative parallel road, and emphasizes that it continues to perform its role in maintaining and sustaining roads in all regions of the kingdom, which is expected to provide a new financial resource supporting the efforts of road maintenance and rehabilitation.

The system, which was published in the official gazette, set the road service tariff for the Harranah Al Omari road at 0.85 dinars for small vehicles including small and medium-sized transport vehicles and passenger buses of all sizes, and 2.5 dinars for cargo vehicles of four axles or more.
