Khaberni - An American runner thwarted an attempt to steal her mobile phone in the British capital, London, after she successfully chased down the thief and caught him within a matter of minutes, using her athletic skills in sprinting and long-distance running.
Camera lenses captured the moment a young man snatched the phone of 24-year-old "Elizabeth Lopez Aguilar" while she was recording a video for the "TikTok" platform in front of London’s famous "Millennium Wheel".
Elizabeth, who is currently training to participate in "Ironman" races and practices triathlon, sprinted after the thief as soon as she realized what had happened.
The American athlete stated in comments reported by the "Metro" newspaper that at first, she thought it was just a prank by her friend, but she quickly switched to "running mode" to chase the culprit.
With the help of her friend "Abraham Tahtou," she managed to corner the thief and retrieve her phone after grabbing his arm, asserting that she would not have stopped until she successfully reclaimed her possessions.
In a related context, Metropolitan Police data revealed that 117,211 mobile phone theft cases were recorded during the year 2024, representing a 25% increase compared to 2019, and reports indicate that only 1% of these cases end with formal charges or judicial convictions.
