Jordan Testing Over 200000 Plastic Gas Cylinders

Khaberni - The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization said on Wednesday that it had tested approximately 200,600 mounted plastic gas cylinders, which had been applied for importation to the kingdom.

The Organization explained to "Al-Mamlaka," that the Metrology Directorate worked on testing these cylinders to ensure their compliance with the Jordanian technical regulation No. (JS 2331), equivalent to the international standard (ISO 11119).

It confirmed that all cylinders passed the tests stipulated in the technical regulation, and the transactions related to them were completed by the organization after finishing the necessary technical procedures.

The Standards and Metrology highlighted that one of the major requirements for the composite plastic gas cylinders is compliance with the Jordanian technical regulation No. (JS 2331), in addition to overseeing the production tests of all cylinders in the country of origin, and obtaining compliance certificates issued by a third-party inspection for the entire batch.

The Jordan Standards and Metrology had previously confirmed that both types of cylinders (metallic and composite) are safe for use, provided that the test results comply with the technical regulations specific to each.

It added that the operational conditions of the composite cylinder are suitable for conditions in Jordan, emphasizing that it will not allow their entry into the kingdom unless they pass all required tests.

In terms of the measures that will be taken by the organization to ensure that the new cylinders comply with safety standards after entering the market, it clarified that it periodically and unexpectedly verifies the gas cylinders in the local markets, and participates in committees specialized in monitoring the cylinders and destroying the non-compliant ones, which will also apply to the composite (plastic) cylinders.

The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission had adopted the use of a new technology of composite gas cylinders, known as (plastic cylinders), designated for the household sector, and they will be optionally circulated alongside the traditional metallic cylinders currently in use in homes.

The Authority mentioned at the time that the adoption of the new 12.5 kilogram capacity household gas cylinder, the same capacity as the metallic cylinder, would improve services offered to citizens, and came after consultations with stakeholders and experts in the sector, extensive studies, and reviews of other countries' experiences and best global practices.

Ziad Al-Sayeda, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, had stated previously to "Al-Mamlaka," that the price of the composite "plastic" gas cylinders will be the same as that of the metallic cylinder.

Al-Sayeda added that the composite "plastic" gas cylinders would enter the Jordanian market upon the licensing of the applications submitted for investing in plastic cylinders.

He indicated that the composite "plastic" gas cylinders would be available in the market before the end of the first half of the current year.
