UNRWA Major Mobilization to Support the Agency with Prominent Role for Jordan

Khaberni - Adnan Abu Hasna, media advisor for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), confirmed that there is a significant mobilization to support UNRWA in facing the current challenges, highlighting the prominent role of Jordan and King Abdullah II in supporting the agency.

Abu Hasna said on Tuesday in the program "Al-Ashira," which airs on "Al-Mamlaka TV," that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, continues to coordinate and consult with UNRWA regularly, and that there is ongoing support from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar in this direction.

He mentioned that an office for UNRWA will soon be opened in Turkey, in a step aimed at expanding the circle of donors and enhancing international support.

He announced that Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), will visit Iraq next Wednesday in an effort to enhance cooperation with various countries and regions.

Abu Hasna added that there is also a movement towards the institutions of the Islamic world, especially Zakat institutions, to secure the necessary support for UNRWA under the difficult circumstances it is undergoing.

"We are living through difficult times at the agency, and the pressures are continuous, intense and dangerous at all levels," added Abu Hasna, who affirmed that UNRWA continues its efforts to provide support and services to Palestinian refugees despite these great challenges.

Regarding the impact of the cutoff of aid to the agency by some donors, Abu Hasna explained that there are repercussions on the services provided to Palestinian refugees, but the services continue in all five operating areas to date. However, he noted that the Gaza Strip faces significant challenges, due to Israel's prevention of the entry of thousands of trucks loaded with relief materials that were stored in UNRWA warehouses in Jordan and Egypt.

Abu Hasna said: "Some of the stored materials, such as tents, are sufficient for more than a million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip," warning that the pressures on the agency are continuous and increasing on all fronts.
